KTE Round 3
Digitized Transportation
ABMarSupply

ABMarSupply is an experiment based on knowledge transfer between Montenegrin SME that operates in the maritime industry and the Mathematical Institute of Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts that has developed an advanced artificial intelligence techniques for analysis and design of system components based on blockchain technology.

Since both partners have a background in blockchain technology, they were complementary to develop a new blockchain solution for the supply chain in maritime industry that combines artificial intelligence and blockchain technology with the ability to optimize real-life processes within a PoUW protocol.

The KTE resulted with a fully operational blockchain solution at Etherium in the form of ABMarSupply software through which users can easily add new blocks and trace the shipments via Dashboard options. The performance of the blockchain solution was validated in terms of trustworthiness, usability and specific requirements obtained from the shipping companies.

Objectives

ABMarSupply presents a completely new solution for tracking and managing maritime supply chains. For the first time ever, it combines AI with PoUW protocols in order to optimize the maritime supply blockchain.

Since the most significant impact of BC technology in maritime supply chain is its traceability where attention must be paid to process optimization issues, this KTE aims to find the AI based blockchain solution in maritime supply chain with the following data sets: types of the ships, their routes, cargo/passenger information. Those data sets will be used for planning of optimized supply chain routes within a PoUW protocol.

Through the knowledge transfer and exchange of specific information regarding to the requirements of maritime cargo and passengers companies from the one side and technical requirements for the implementation of the optimized AI solution from the other side, the consortium partners aim at creating an innovative blockchain solution that will improve the existing procedures and apply AI and optimization in order to reduce transport costs, improve trustworthiness and effectiveness of the maritime supply chain.

Challenges

  • Maritime supply chain represents connected series of activities pertaining to shipping services which is concerned with planning, coordinating and controlling containerized cargoes and the passengers‘ transport from the point of origin to the point of destination. Having in mind that 80% of a global trade is transported via maritime supply chain and that blockchain technology significantly improves the effectiveness of the transportation, reduces cargo delays and operational costs, the proposed solution will be crutial in the furute for ensuring effective, trustworthy and reliable maritime supply chain.
  • Even if some maritime companies apply blockchain, their solutions don’t have new PoUW protocols and optimization features.
  • The similar solutions only exist as theorethical one.

Technology

  • Data sets obtained from shipping companies
  • Optimization protocols
  • Artificial intelligence and
  • Smart contracts

Market

The ABMarSupply blockchain solution will be applicable to the shipping companies and other subjects in international maritime supply chains (such as national and international maritime authorities, customs, other subjects of intermodal transportation, end customers, etc.). Also, academic institutions and research organizations can use the proposed blockchain solution for improving their technical and research capacities. Other SMEs working in projects related to blockchain technology can use proposed solution as the basis for further improvments according to their market needs.
